Love… Joules

March 10, 2014

Joules is a relatively new brand yet has become a very popular over the last few years, with shops and concessions popping up wherever you look. Joules is an example of lifestyle brands and how their product range grows when people start to buy into the brand. Joules started with primarily clothing yet home ranges have now grown and people want to buy into this look. Their designs are fun, colourful and depicting of enjoyable country living. Functional yet in trend and fun, I can see why Joules is growing.

Introducing Pantone’s colour of the year – Radiant Orchid…

‘Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.’ (Source – Pantone: http://www.pantone.co.uk/pages/index.aspx?pg=21129)

This colour may not to be everybody’s taste; I myself took a while to adjust to this strong colour but have found using it within different elements of a room can really bring a space to life. Try the Radiant Orchid with a turquoise or teal to bring a dramatic, bold new look to an interior. This colour is set to be a very popular trend within fashion, beauty and interiors in 2014 so whether it is a splash of colour on the walls, new accessories or simply an new orchid flower for your home, this is the colour to invest in this year.

Item of the week…

December 20, 2012

My favourite item this week is this ‘Egg Votive in Silver’ from Graham & Green. It would look beautiful on the mantlepiece over christmas but still lovely when the decorations have been taken down in the new year. It would add a touch of glistening light, reflecting from the hand decorated glass and beads pattern.

Decorated Branches

December 10, 2012

Last year I bought some baubles in The White Company Christmas sale and have been waiting all year to be able to use them. Today I started to decorate my bedroom and finally got to put them up! I decided on hanging them off a collection of branches arranged in a vase creating a minimalistic and Scandinavian look. It was just enough to subtly decorate a bedroom and to show off the lovely baubles.

The last post on this year’s Christmas trends. This trend is all about everything colourful, fun and playful. Decorations are cute and everything you would find in Santa’s Grotto! This trend is ideal for decorating a tree in a home with children as the snowmen, robins and candy canes will all come to life.

Christmas Trends: Nordic

November 19, 2012

Like in interior accessories this year, the Nordic style is proving popular in decorations this Christmas. It is ideal for creating a cosy, stylish Christmas look. Think real christmas trees, reds, greens and natural tones and reindeer, alongside cuttings of branches and twigs.

Christmas Trends: Gold

November 12, 2012

Leading up until it is time for the Christmas decorations to go up I will bring you this years Christmas trends.

The first is the traditional gold theme, which like last year is very popular. This trend is very luxurious and adds richness and warmth to a home. This theme doesn’t have to look traditional as a variety of contemporary twists have been brought to this Christmas classic.

Decorating With… White

July 30, 2012

Decorating an interior white is timeless and a versatile choice. It is the ideal colour for giving the illusion of space or creating a light and airy interior. The colour is ideal for updating your home with the latest trends by using it as a base and changing the accessories and soft furnishings, or, for decorating in accordance to the different times of the year by using suitable textures, for example, woollen throws in the winter and linens in the summer. Adding a variety of textures is what gives a white interior character and by using a mixture of textiles, materials and surfaces makes an otherwise disinteresting and plain interior inviting and attractive.

A white interior can also be saved from being stark and plain by using different shades of the colour. Different tones of white can create a variety of feelings within a room. Yellow tones create a warmer interior, ideal for the more traditional home; whereas blue tones give a more contemporary and cooling look. By using a combination of white tones and different textures, you can create a striking home with the relaxing sense that the colour white provides.
