As part as my MA Interior Design I am researching into how people are changing the way they use their homes. If you have time please complete the quick survey below. Thank you!

With the industrial interior design trend has come a large amount of lighting designs based upon the simple light bulb. Following on from the Lee Broom post with his decorative, intricate lighting based upon the light bulb, I have found lighting designs with a more naive style to them yet still transform the simple light bulb in a contemporary and great way.

Item of the week…

December 20, 2012

My favourite item this week is this ‘Egg Votive in Silver’ from Graham & Green. It would look beautiful on the mantlepiece over christmas but still lovely when the decorations have been taken down in the new year. It would add a touch of glistening light, reflecting from the hand decorated glass and beads pattern.

Pantone’s colour of the year for 2013 is Emerald Green. A more classic colour than the 2012 colour, Tangerine Tango which popped up quite a lot and adapted to the years interior trend of orange. I wonder how popular and influential Emerald Green will be in 2013?

Decorated Branches

December 10, 2012

Last year I bought some baubles in The White Company Christmas sale and have been waiting all year to be able to use them. Today I started to decorate my bedroom and finally got to put them up! I decided on hanging them off a collection of branches arranged in a vase creating a minimalistic and Scandinavian look. It was just enough to subtly decorate a bedroom and to show off the lovely baubles.

The last post on this year’s Christmas trends. This trend is all about everything colourful, fun and playful. Decorations are cute and everything you would find in Santa’s Grotto! This trend is ideal for decorating a tree in a home with children as the snowmen, robins and candy canes will all come to life.

Inspired by winter colours, this trend brings icy whites and cool blues and all things that sparkle. Even if its not a white christmas this year, it will be indoors.

This is Mister Elephant, a decorative animal head available from Bodie & Fou. You can choose from the elephant, a polar bear or a fox, all equally cute and a very unique. These heads are handmade and are ideal for creating a beautiful feature on children’s bedroom wall.

Christmas Trends: Nordic

November 19, 2012

Like in interior accessories this year, the Nordic style is proving popular in decorations this Christmas. It is ideal for creating a cosy, stylish Christmas look. Think real christmas trees, reds, greens and natural tones and reindeer, alongside cuttings of branches and twigs.

Christmas Trends: Gold

November 12, 2012

Leading up until it is time for the Christmas decorations to go up I will bring you this years Christmas trends.

The first is the traditional gold theme, which like last year is very popular. This trend is very luxurious and adds richness and warmth to a home. This theme doesn’t have to look traditional as a variety of contemporary twists have been brought to this Christmas classic.
